A Very Long Tale
It’s a bit last year darling. A bit old hat. But if you haven’t read the Long Tail by Chris Anderson yet, then it’s worth a read. That said you can basicaly sum up it’s 231 pages like as follows:
In the beginning there was a big fiery ball, then the rains came, the dinosaurs died and turned into oil, there was an Industrial revolution and then the Internet was born. The Internet entirely revolutionised consumer retail economic theory by providing near infinite choice that people surprisingly consumed because they found they didn’t have to behave like sheep and follow the crowd. This means that there is as much money to be made in “the long tail” by small numbers of sales of millions of products as there is in the “head” where the relatively small amount of mainstream “hits” live. Bingo!
And then The IT Crowd got a new series on Channel 4. Shocking.
You can even buy it now from my Book Club!
